Learned more about Bull Mastiffs on Dogs 101

When it comes to talking About Dogs, we always think about the brand of loyalty which is one of their unique features. If you are a bona fide dog lover, I hope you have watched Dogs 101 aired on the channel animal planet at least once in a while. Two years before when I started watching this show, I was really amazed to know that just like every human being dogs too carry a history of their ancestors with them. With over 70 breeds featured so far, this show features six Breeds Of Dogs per episode and gives us in-depth information about all of them along with some expert opinions from trainers, groomers and veterinarians. I have a bull mastiff (his name is Jack) in my house and it was a great experience to watch his history along with him on my TV powered by

when the program covered bull mastiff in season three.

Bull mastiff is a wonderful result of breeding Bull Dogs with the mastiffs. By nature, they have inherited the stature and body of a tough mastiff along with the fast and active feature of a friendly Bull Dog. Apart from the loyal, gentle, friendly and the playmate qualities of a bullmastiff, he still remains as an excellent guard dog. Though the breed existed in Britain and some parts of USA from 17th century, they were recognized by the governments as a valid breed only in the year of 1974. The main reason to create this breed was to combine the guarding abilities with courage so that they are faster than the mastiffs in protecting hunting guards and to capture or immobilize illegal hunters. Actually the bull mastiffs were once called as Gamekeeper’s Night Dog, which means night dog for the hunting guard.

The initial breeders concentrated only on the standard mixture, but the correct mixture of this breed was achieved only in the next generation. With almost 30 years of honing the breed, the recent generations of bull mastiffs are famous across the world because they are easier to raise and control. They never act naturally violent, but they must not be abused in anyway as they might turn out tearing due to their mastiff dominating quality. He feels best next to his master and does have lots of patience. In society, he is pretty quiet and relaxed, assuming he has been brought into contact with people since he was little.

Equipped for guarding, bull mastiff is tough to crack with his incredible quick reactions and he will protect his owner even at the cost of his life. They get attached with the family members very easily and they are known for their loving and patient nature especially with little children. They are very playful and let children do anything to them without fighting back. Though they need a large space for regular exercise, a bull mastiff will adapt to an apartment life as well when they find themselves around their master.

One practical difficulty that I used to face often with a bull mastiff is during the travel times. They grow faster than we might expect and reach over 100 pounds within a few months, so taking them out in your car with your family is not going to be the same when they are young. The high amount of energy they possess makes it mandatory for us to give them a hard exercise routine daily. Just like humans, the bull mastiffs too get violent when they are bored and stressed out.

The show had a lot of other things too and I came to know so much information about my cute bull mastiff on Dogs 101. It was real fun to watch the show with Jack; he kept walking to the television, licking, barking and wagging his tail throughout the show.
